Bill and Diana

Bill McLean was born and raised in Ajax where he attended elementary and secondary school. On July 29, 1969, he joined the Toronto Police Force where he worked at various Divisions in the downtown core. His police experience included almost 15 years in plainclothes and the Detective Office where he was a child/sexual and domestic abuse investigator. The last 10 years of his service was spent at 53 Division where he was a uniformed Sergeant, supervising a platoon of male and female officers. He was also a member of the Public Order Unit.
He retired from the Toronto Police Service on April 17, 2000 after more than 30 years service. During the course of his police service he received 59 letters of commendation for excellent police work and service to the citizens of Toronto.
First elected to council in November of 2000 Bill was re-elected in November 2003 and 2006 by a large majority and was acclaimed in October 2010. In 1999, he received his real estate license and has built a very successful real estate career with Re/Max First Realty in Pickering along with his daughter Shannon.
As Regional Councillor, Bill serves on a number of committees and organizations including the:
• Committee of the Whole
• City of Pickering Animal Services Committee
• Pickering Museum Village Advisory Committee
• City of Pickering Taxicab Advisory Committee
• Newly appointed to the Police Services Board for the term 2010 to 2014
• Regional Works Committee
As well, Bill served on the Veridian Board as Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation committee, Chair of the Selection committee and past Chair of the Audit committee. Bill was also Vice-Chair of the Region of Durham Finance and Administration Committee for the term 2006-2010.
He is actively involved in the community as Co-Chair of the Terry Fox Run and Pickering Blooms committee. Bill was previously involved with the Vaughan Willard School Community Council, the Frenchman's Bay Festival, and a member of the United Way Allocation Committee.
Bill has served as a minor hockey, baseball and soccer coach. Sponsors a number of Charity Golf Tournament, including William Dunbar Annual and a strong supporter and fundraiser for the Sold on a Cure, Breast Cancer, Heart & Stroke and Lung Cancer charities.
Currently sponsors the Annual Breakfast with Santa at Vaughn Willard Public School.
Bill and his spouse Diana currently reside in Pickering in Ward 2. He has two children, Shannon and Brandon, who have attended both public and high school in the Ward.
